A #kembertext in a home in Iowa, USA. Ephesians 2:8. Notice the black and thin wood frame. This indicates it is a vintage print. Notice also the reverse side of the text. Look closely. It is not stamped, which means it may possibly date to 1955-1957 (prior to when Mr. Walter Kember purchased his rubber stamp in 1957). However, I have never seen a text that used diamond-shaped darts (“brads”) for the cardboard backing, which this one uses. From my research of framed Scripture prints assembled by Mr. Kember in this era, he would typically seal the reverse side with a paper backing. Look closely again… the paper backing on this print has been removed! That is why we see the brads, which I had never seen before. That is also possibly why we don’t see a stamp because the paper was stamped, not the underlying cardboard. But what about the brads? The cardboard in the vast majority of prints that I have seen is typically held in place by staples, not brads. However, I have just confirmed that in the early days from 1955, when he started making texts, through the 1960’s, he used brads! Stapling the reverse side of the texts came later on.
